Why Pilates

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s mainly as rehabilitation for soldiers, but later also as strengthening exercises for ballet dancers. From the beginning, he called his training "contrology", which later became Pilates training. Pilates emphasises the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Plates have a focus on the core which can basically be thought of as the "powerhouse" of the body. as you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. As the trunk is properly stabilised, pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently.

Pilates classes build strength, flexibility, and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and the spine.
